On July 17, 1999 Jon and his family were killed in a tragic automobile accident. Upon this loss, his family wanted the person that Jon was to be remembered by all. We thought of ways that he would want his memory and the memory of his family to live on. Jon was a very loving person. He was funny, bright, and very generous. We know, if they had been given the opportunity, Jon and Misty would have brought their baby girl up the same way. Therefore we felt that the best way to honor the three of them was to be loving and generous to children who are dealing with major medical problems.
A year after we began this foundation Jon's niece, Jona was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease, Juvenile Dermatomyositis. You can read about her story by clicking the "Jona's Journey" cloud. Upon her diagnosis we, as a family realized the severity of this disease and have gone through this difficult battle with her. We knew if Jon was here today he would do everything in his power to help her and children like her. In 2006 it was decided that not only would we help children with major medical problems, but it would also be our mission to help find a cure for Jona and other children fighting Juvenile Dermatomyositis. Therefore, a portion of the money we make from fundraisers will be donated to fund research on this disease so that this it may be better understood and a cure can be found in the near future. There is information on this disease at both "Jona's Journey" and The Cure JM foundation.
