Our Story
How we got here...
On July 17, 1999, Jon and his family were taken from this world in a tragic automobile accident. Upon this loss, his family wanted the person that Jon was to be remembered and his legacy to carry on in a way that represented his love for life and giving spirit. We prayerfully considered what this should look like and how we could make him proud. Jon was a very loving person. He was funny, bright and very generous. We know if they had been given the opportunity, Jon and Misty would have brought their baby girl up the same way. Therefore, we felt that the best way to honor the three of them was to be loving and generous to those in need just as he was; specifically children. The foundation considered specific areas of need around the community and decided our focus should be on children who are dealing with major medical problems, and how to support them to ensure they received the best care possible.

Additionally, at the age of 2, Jon's niece was diagnosed with a very rare disease, Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). At the time she was diagnosed, this disease impacted 1 in every 200,000 children. Because we knew if Jon were alive, he would have made every effort to fight this battle for her, the foundation decided in 2006 to add this as part of our mission. Due to its rarity and the significant life impact this disease has on children and their families, bringing awareness to this very rare disease is imperative. Therefore, a portion of the money made from fundraisers are donated to fund research on Juvenile Dermatomyositis so that it may be better understood and a cure can be found in the near future. There is information on this disease at "The Cure JM Foundation."
